About
Cecile Cummings is a landscape and still life artist interested in exploring and examining the fragility of liminal spaces. She seeks to capture the vulnerability and isolation present in both man-made and natural landscapes, challenging audience responses to recognisable places.
As well as working with acrylics, she has experimented with both photography and sculpture, winning the University of Western Sydney’s Graduation Photography Award in 2003 for her work delving into reminiscences of her childhood through the frame of the familiar Australian backyard. Since completing her honours degree in Fine Arts from Western Sydney University, she has predominantly worked in landscape painting, in which Leura and the Blue Mountains, her home for the past 43 years, frequently feature.
In 2003, she participated in a collaborative exhibition with a collective of Singaporean artists through the Plastique gallery in Singapore. She was awarded an Atelier Artist in Residency in 2025 at the Chateau de Cerisay in France.
